Based on the Book: Find books that were made into movies

Mid-contient Public Library's Based on the Book is a compilation of over 1,450 books, novels, short stories, and plays that have been made into motion pictures. Utilizing the Internet Movie Database as an authority, all resources in this collection have been released as feature-length films in the United States, in English, since 1980.

Adult Book Awards

  • Arthur C. Clarke Award: The Arthur C. Clarke Award is a British award given for the best science fiction novel first published in the United Kingdom during the previous year.
  • Agatha Award: The Agatha Awards, named for Agatha Christie, are literary awards for mystery and crime writers who write in the cozy mystery subgenre.
  • Bram Stoker Award: The Bram Stoker Award is a recognition presented annually by the Horror Writers Association for "superior achievement" in dark fantasy and horror writing.
  • Christy Awards: The Christy Awards are awarded each year to recognize novels of excellence written from a Christian worldview. Awards are given in several genres, including contemporary, historical, romance, suspense, and visionary
  • Edgar Award: The Edgar Allan Poe Awards, named after Edgar Allan Poe, are presented every year by the Mystery Writers of America, based in New York City.
  • Fiction ALA Notable Books: Since 1944, the goal of the Notable Books Council has been to make available to the nation’s readers a list of 25 very good, very readable, and at times very important fiction, nonfiction, and poetry books for the adult reader.
  • Hugo Award: The Hugo Awards are a set of literary awards given annually for the best science fiction or fantasy works and achievements of the previous year.

  • Man Booker Prize: The Man Booker Prize for Fiction is a literary prize awarded each year for the best original novel written in the English language and published in the UK.
  • National Book Award for Fiction: The National Book Award for Fiction is one of four annual National Book Awards, which recognize outstanding literary work by United States citizens.
  • National Book Award for Nonfiction: National Book Award for Nonfiction. The National Book Award for Nonfiction is one of four annual National Book Awards, which are given by the National Book Foundation to recognize outstanding literary work by U.S. citizens. They are awards "by writers to writers"
  • Nebula Award: The Nebula Awards annually recognize the best works of science fiction or fantasy published in the United States.
  • Nonfiction ALA Notable Books: Since 1944, the goal of the Notable Books Council has been to make available to the nation’s readers a list of 25 very good, very readable, and at times very important fiction, nonfiction, and poetry books for the adult reader.
  • PEN/Faulkner Awards: The PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction is awarded annually by the PEN/Faulkner Foundation to the authors of the year's best works of fiction by living American citizens.
  • Pulitzer Prize for Biography: The Pulitzer Prize for Biography or Autobiography is one of the seven American Pulitzer Prizes that are annually awarded for Letters, Drama, and Music.
  • Pulitzer Prize for Fiction: The Pulitzer Prize for Fiction is one of the seven American Pulitzer Prizes that are annually awarded for Letters, Drama, and Music
  • Pulitzer Prize for History: The Pulitzer Prize for History, administered by Columbia University, is one of the seven American Pulitzer Prizes that are annually awarded for Letters, Drama, and Music.
  • Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction: The Pulitzer Prize for General Nonfiction is one of the seven American Pulitzer Prizes that are annually awarded for Letters, Drama, and Music.

  • RITA awards: The RITA Award is the most prominent award given throughout the genre of romance fiction. It is presented by Romance Writers of America.
  • Spur Awards: Spur Awards are literary prizes awarded annually by the Western Writers of America (WWA). The purpose of the Spur Awards is to honor writers for distinguished writing about the American West. The Spur awards began in 1953, the same year the WWA was founded.
